Introduction to my fasting journey

For more than eight months I have been unemployed.  For those of you who have endured unemployment, it can be difficult figuring out what to do with your days when the structure work provided is gone.  For about a month, I decided that I would watch a documentary a day.  I called it my "Doc a Day" period.

In January 2013, I was watching the documentary, "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead".  I definitely recommend watching it, particularly if you're fascinated by juice cleanses and would like to see the affects of being totally committed to a cleanse.  After watching the movie, I decided that I wanted to try out a cleanse, even if for 10 days.  I figured it couldn't hurt, and maybe it could even help.

But I didn't start immediately.  In fact, I waited nearly two months before I did anything.  I don't know about you, but as someone who is unemployed, I am hyper-sensitive to what others think of  me in relation to being active, being thrifty, and being productive.  I am always afraid that someone, particularly those I love most, will think I'm being irresponsible.  And that's what held me back from buying the juicer.  In fact, I had it in my head that my then-boyfriend would think I was being irresponsible with my money if I spent $100 on a juicer.  That, of course, was all in my head.  It was in no way a reflection of how supportive he would have been.  But I let what I thought his perception of me was hold me back.  Silly, I know.

Well, fast forward two months, it was mid-March in Seattle.  The weather was actually getting nicer, I was still thinking about this documentary, and I became a single lady.  It was time to really start actively taking care of myself.  So I went ahead and bought the juicer.  I opted for the less expensive Breville Model: Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700-Watt Juice Extractor.

I received my juicer on Wednesday, March 13, and began juicing right away.

Now, anyone who has seen "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead" knows that Joe, the main character of the film, cleansed for 60 days on juice alone.  I thought I would try 10 days and see how I was feeling before making a decision to juice longer.

Well, 10 days passed, and I felt great!  I thought to myself, "You should do the whole thing.  You can totally do it!".  So, I did.  And that's where the blog begins, my friends.

Except that it doesn't.  I actually begins on day 22 of my journey.  Truth be told, I had no idea anyone would be interested in my experience, until my friends Sabrina and Brandon encouraged me to blog about it.

I hope this is an interesting read, and I'd love to hear your comments on what you think about it all.

Here's to another 37 days of good juice, good health, and (hopefully) good blogging!

  1. Sorry for the typos guys (affects should be effects). Doh! I'll get better as I progress. =)
